I am currently a Doctor in Ireland.
I am Burnt Out.
Badly!
I’m seriously considering leaving the profession. I have been for almost a year now.
I know a lot of my thoughts may be due to the burnout, depression and anxiety I’m currently experiencing but I honestly can’t see any other way out of this hole I’ve managed to dig myself into.
I’m trying to work on myself. Trying to work through and recover from this burnout.
But I have decided that if things don’t improve drastically in the next year I will leave.
I love being a doctor. And I still love my patients.
But I cannot, I WILL not, continue to sacrifice my physical and mental health any longer for a system that does not care about me as a human being.
This blog is mainly for me. I’m journalling my thoughts and feelings here as a therapeutic outlet. For something to look back on in a few weeks, months, in a year.
Maybe some people will read it.
Maybe the public will realize how much we sacrifice in our own lives for theirs……although I think they already do.
Maybe some other doctors will read it.
Maybe it will help them…….Maybe they will help me.
Maybe this will add to the quiet debate between the medical profession and the government/administration that we’ve been talking to for decades about our struggles, with no resolution.
Maybe it will make our quiet, educated voice of reason a little louder.
It will probably just be me having conversations with myself though. And that’s OK.
I really need someone to talk to……….
